01 — Editor’s letter

A magazine for
the questions
that stay with us.

Why do we do what we do? Who shapes the world we inherit? What makes a good life?

The Thinking Shelf begins with a simple belief: the world becomes more interesting when we ask better questions of it.

Each issue brings economics, psychology, human behaviour and philosophy into conversation. We follow ideas beyond their own fields and ask what they reveal about ordinary life: choices, relationships, work, belief and the systems we share.

Our essays are free to read. They are written for people who want to understand more, without pretending that every question has a neat answer.
